Management Committee

Queensland Writers Centre has a robust voluntary Management Committee of 11 industry professionals from across government, private enterprise, education and the writing, publishing industry. Committed to the ongoing success of QWC’s strategic and administrative direction, the Management Committee meets once a month to support QWC initiatives for Queensland writers and writing.

QWC members: You can now vote for who you would like to see elected to the QWC Management Committee in 2010. Voting can be done in three ways.

1. You can attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday 25 March, 2010 (6pm for 6.30pm start) and vote in person;
2. You can submit a postal vote, which must reach QWC by 5pm, 25 March 2010; AND/OR  
3. You can appoint a proxy: that is, someone else to vote on your behalf during the AGM.

Theodora brings extensive experience in commercialisation, business and market strategy and international marketing to her role as Chair of QWC.  As a pivotal force behind the successful implementation of The Australian Writers Marketplace online, QWC and Theodora were awarded the KMPG Advicebank Award in 2007, through the Australia Business Arts Foundation mentoring program.

Margaret Kennedy
Margaret Kennedy is a literary agent and founding member of the Australian Literary Agents Association. She was a non-fiction book editor in London and then Brisbane for seventeen productive years before she established her literary agency in 1996.  Representing mainly Australian writers, she is vitally interested in developments in the publishing industry, worldwide.

Tami Harriott
Tami's professional experience includes over 16 years in consumer and commercial banking in Australia and the United States. With an acute understanding of the financial issues underpinning small businesses, Tami brings knowledge in the areas of cash flow, the impact of working on capital growth and building the capabilities within an organisation.

Kevin Gillespie
Kevin has a background in management and logistics and is currently working for QBuild within the Queensland State Government, as Regional Procurement Manager. Previously, he spent 21 years in the Royal Australian Air Force and lived and worked in many areas of Australia and South East Asia. 

 

 

Sue AbbeyMember
Sue Abbey
Following a career of more than two decades as a senior commissioning editor with the University of Queensland Press, Sue is an inaugural One Book Many Brisbanes judge and recipient of the QWC Johnno Award in 2006 for her contribution to Indigenous writing, she is a committee member of the Brisbane Writers Festival and advisor to the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies.

Anita Bell
Anita Bell has successfully published novels for adults and children, short stories, articles, ballads and poems. She's a popular guest speaker, sponsor for various awards and has extensive experience in self-marketing and acting as her own agent. As a regional member of QWC for over 10 years, she has participated in board meetings via phone conferencing over the last two years.

Mark Fallu
Mark is a specialist in online communication tools and strategies. Mark manages the e-research activities of Griffith University in the Humanities, Creative and Performing Arts.  Previously, he has been a media and policy advisor for a number of Queensland Government Ministers. Mark has also been associated with Creative Commons Australia project and the online component of a number of Brisbane based festivals.

As a practising lawyer for more than fifteen years, Geraldine appreciates the power and significance of words and writing. She has a passion for literature and a desire to use her skills and experience to support QWC as an organisation that supports the pursuit of writing.

Nike Bourke
Nike Bourke is a Queensland writer. In 2000, Nike won the Queensland Premier's Literary Award for Best Emerging Queensland Author for her novel The Bone Flute, released by UQP in 2001 and subsequently shortlisted in the Commonwealth Writers Awards. Her children’s book, What the Sky Knows (Illustrated by Stella Danalis), was published in May 2005 and has been shortlisted for two separate categories in the 2006 Children’s Book Council of Australia Awards. Her adult novel, The True Green of Hope was released in August 2005. She has a PhD in creative writing from Griffith University, and taught Creative Writing in the university sector for ten years. She is the co-owner of Olvar Wood Writers Retreat.
