Queensland Writers Centre’s evening and weekday classes are suitable for any writer, but are particularly aimed at aspiring and emerging writers.
These classes are short practical series that aim to help you develop your writing practice as well as introduce you to a wider writing network. Perfect for people who have yet to pick up a pen.
Introduction to Creative Writing Class 1 & 2
There are a lot of us out there who write, scribbling ideas on bus tickets, boarding passes and coffee shop serviettes, but who never seem to turn these notes into anything.
If you have been scribbling away quietly but have never taken the leap to finish anything or call yourself a writer, clear a few hours each week over four weeks to sit down and rediscover the art of creative writing in this practice-based series of classes.
Discover your unique writing voice, explore your creative writing abilities and allow your writing to become more than just a distant dream.

Short Story Development Series led by Angela Slatter
If you are serious about writing short fiction and have reached a stage where you need some critical feedback, join internationally acclaimed short fiction writer Angela Slatter as she leads an intensive peer group for short story development.
Over six months, you will learn the techniques of good critique; write new work and offer feedback to fellow group members. You’ll also receive critical feedback on your own stories in progress in a supportive and understanding environment.
This is less a classroom-style workshop than it is an interactive, roundtable format where each participant gets individual feedback from peers. You will develop a better understanding of the construction of good fiction by critiquing other writers’ work and finish the series with one or more polished stories to submit to publishing markets.
