Queensland Writers Centre realises the importance of enabling writers and would-be writers to develop their skills, and progress their work at their own convenience. In response, we have created a number of online writing courses.

Writers from across Australia, especially those in regional and remote areas, can now access our most popular writing courses. Participants don’t need to be a Queensland Writers entre member to enrol and international participants are also welcome.

Introduction to Creative Writing

6-week online program

There are a lot of us out there who write, scribbling ideas on bus tickets, boarding passes and coffee shop serviettes, but who never seem to turn these notes into anything.

If you have been scribbling away quietly but have never taken the leap to finish anything or call yourself a writer, clear a few hours a week in your schedule to sit down with a QWC tutor and rediscover the art of creative writing in this practice-based series of classes.

Year of the Novel

26 week online program

If you have always wanted to write a novel or if you have a first draft collecting dust in the drawer, waiting for your rewrite, then here is your chance.

Challenge yourself to complete the ultimate writing journey in Year of the Novel Online (YONline) with renowned author and QWC tutor, Kim Wilkins. Over 26 progressive fortnights you will be inspired and challenged to overcome roadblocks and most importantly, to keep writing.

New work is released each fortnight via video, audio and online correspondence, and then participants have that fortnight to complete the activities and submit them to share with the tutor and/or the group.

You will receive individual feedback from our expert tutor as your manuscript develops, focusing on the writer's guide to narrative structure, characterisation, developing voice and self-editing. You will participate in a number of group and individual activities and share your developing understanding of writing as you work towards completing a manuscript draft.
